Maybe you have already known that Hakone is one of the most popular hot spring (onsen) area in Japan, but do you know that it is also a famous spot for other natural attractions too?

Have you also heard about Lake Ashinoko where you can see the reflection of Mt. Fuji? How about the galleries and the curry dish in the famous hot spring area Yumoto?

Today, of course we will take you to our favorite hot spring, Kowakien YUNESSUN, where you can relax yourself and enjoy the special themed bath. Before that, how about we take you to other sightseeing spots and try some local dish in Hakone first? Com'on, let'go!



Your travel story begins in Shinjuku, Tokyo

The easiest way to get to Hakone is taking the Odakyu's limited express train "Romancecar". In about 1 hour and 30 minutes, you will arrive in Hakone Yumoto station. On the way, you can see the beautiful views of Hakone and other nearby areas too. For those who want to get a better view during the journey, you can make a reservation of your seats on the observation deck in the front or back of train Type 50,000 or Type 7,000 Romancecar. In the picture above, you can see how amazing series VSE Type 50,000 is! Besides series VSE, you can also find series MSE which is connected with Tokyo Metro System, series EXE and series LXE.

Get your Hakone Freepass at the Odakyu Sightseeing Service Center

Inside the Odakyu Shinjuku station, you can find the Odakyu Sightseeing Service Center where you can get the Romancecar tickets and the Haknoe Freepass! Before we get on the Romancecar, how about we buy some nice Japanese lunchbox (bento) to eat on the train!

Hakone Yumoto Station

When you step out from the train, the sulfur smell from the hot spring welcomes you and tells you that you arrive in Hakone! If you visit Hakone in late June and July, you can get a chance to see the hydrangea flowers blossom in Hakone area too!

Among all the shops, there are two shops that we highly recommend you to go. At "Hakone No Otsuki Sama" (left), you can buy the steamed bun made with water from hot springs. At "Himono"(right), you can find the freshly made fishcakes!


Check Point! First curry shop in Hakone - Hakone Curry Cocoro

It is said that you can add a few years to your life once you eat the curry at Cocoro! Probably the curry is made from the water in Hakone, so people believe that it is healthier and more special :P

Cocoro Special Curry is highly recommended for you! You can find cauliflower, green pepper, potato, eggplant, pumpkin and other vegetables along with an half boiled egg and meat in this special curry.


Look at the menu! Besides curry, there are other side dishes and drinks for you to choose.

Popular Spot in Hakone

On top of the counter, you can find posters and figures of the famous Japanese animation, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Also, you can see lots of autographs of Japanese celebrities hanging on the wall too!

At the Hakone Open-Air Museum, you can enjoy the nature and artwork at the same time! This is definitely a new experience for you! In the Sculpture Garden, outdoor artwork can be found.

What is the secret behind the black eggs (Kuro Tamago)??
Raw eggs are boiled in hot spring water which contains sulfur and iron. The black color of iron sulfide is actually a result of the reaction with hydrogen sulfide which makes the shell black!!



Add a few more years to your life span??!!

People believe that you can add seven years to your life span if you just eat one black egg!! Really? Be careful with the cholesterol though.........

Check Point! Sightseeing Spots in Hakone and Moto-Hakone

Actually if you just walk a little bit toward the Onshi-Hakone-Koen Park, you can find a parking lot where you can take some nice pictures! Map

The Hakone Shrine is a Japanese shrine on the shores of Lake Ashinoko. You can find Torii (traditional Japanese gate) and some big cedar trees in Hakone Shrine too. Make your wish to them, maybe it will come true!! Map

Mori no Yu - Hot Springs in the Forest

At YUNESSUN, you can find hot springs that change their themes according to the 4 seasons. In June, it is the season of Hydrangeas flowers! So you can enjoy your hot spring time surround by these lovely flowers.

At "Mori No Yu", there is a special hot spring that the theme is changed every month. The theme was Japanese plum in June!
