If you are planning to visit the northeast (Tohoku) part of Japan (Prefectures including Fukushima, Miyagi, Yamagata, Iwate, Akita, and Aomori), there is a good news for you now.
Starting in October this year, a money saving highway bus ticket went on sale especially for foreign visitors! It is the "Tohoku Highway Bus Ticket"!

With this bus ticket, you can have an unlimited travel on selected highway buses and local buses (60 bus routes) across all 6 Tohoku prefectures. Details of the bus routes, click here.
You can either choose the 4-day pass or the 7-day pass.
Price
4-day pass: 10,000 yen
7-day pass: 13,000 yen
(No child fare for these passes)
How should I make a reservation and buy a ticket?

Step 1
Purchase your voucher for the Tohoku Highway Bus Ticket online at
Step 2
Make a reservation for the bus that you want to take in advance online at
(Enter the voucher code that you received via e-mail earlier)
Please note that only 11 special bus routes require reservation in advance. For the other 49 routes, just feel free to hop on and off as you like.
Step 3
Pick up your pass at designated sites in Japan. Details click here.
(Passport is required when you pick up your pass.)
Step 4
Just find buses with the following sticker on the windshield, then you can ride them with the pass!
