GU is pronounced as "Jee-you" which is the Japanese world "自由” (freedom)! Actually GU is under the same group as another famous casual wear brand UNIQLO. GU is more popular among young people since their designs are trendy and up to the minute. As of August 31, 2016, there are more than 350 GU stores in Japan, China and Taiwan. They will open their first 2 stores in Hong Kong in Spring 2017!

The special thing about the new GU self-checkout system is that you do NOT have to scan the barcode of the items. All you need to do is just putting all the items (without the hangers) you want into the box in front of the machine.

Then, the machine can do all the scan for you. In just a second, the total amount is displayed on the screen, and you just need to pay now! So you may ask, how come the machine can do the scan by itself?

Actually the price tag attaching to each item is a special IC tag which can be recognized by the machine! It is just amazing!
