Full of lavender fragrance in Furano

Furano is located in the middle part of Hokkaido which is a famous small town with lots of lavender.

The name Furano is originated from the Ainu language which means "Flame".
(Ainu are an indigenous people of Japan and Russia.)

Seas of flowers in different seasons

Furano has the largest production of lavender in Japan. The best season to come to visit is in July and August every year. You can find many lavender products selling here too!

Other than lavender, beautiful tulips, sunflowers can also be seen here in Furano.

Farm Tomita is recommended since it is one of the biggest farm here and it is free!!

Japanese Drama and Commercial Popular Shooting Spot - Biei

As being called "the most beautiful village" in Japan, Biei is also a very popular sightseeing spot for visitors. We will show you 3 great places to visit in Biei.

Spot 1 - The Tree of Ken and Mary

Of course we need to visit the Nissan commercial spot since we are driving our Nissan's SUV!

The original commercial was released in 1972, and the tree was appeared in this love-themed commercial.

Spot 2 - Seven Stars Tree

This big tree was appeared on the cigarette box in 1976 and that's how it became famous!

Spot 3 - Mild Seven Hill

Actually the trees on the hill was used and appeared on the Mild Seven's poster back in 1977. The original poster looks like this:

With all kinds of crops - Biei

Since there's a great temperature difference in Hokkaido, the vegetables here are very delicious.

Do you know that the Hokkaido is very famous too?

What are these trees used for??

Actually they are used as windbreak to protect the crops and the houses!

So the line of trees on the poster are actually used as windbreak too!

However, please note that the fields are privately owned, so be careful and don't get into troubles!

Lake Mashu

Lake Mashu is ranked as the world's second transparent and well-known volcano lake. At an altitude of 351 meters in height and about 211.4 meters in depth. It is covered in fog the whole year.

We ordered the famous Hokkaido miso ramen for our lunch!!

Sulfur Mountain Mount Io

Since the volcano is still in active, you can get a smell of sulfur here indeed! The mountain is not open to public now since the accident happened in 2007.

Kawayu Hot Spring

We had a pretty long day today, let's take a break and relax at the Kawayu hot spring. Actually this is a very rare and special hot spring since the water is called 100% original spring water! It is said that it is good for diabetes and skin diseases.  There are around 20 hot spring hotels in this area, and you can find a free foot bath here too!
